Ahri’ahn

Third Sorcerer-King of Orichalcum Age Atlantis
Also known as: Wise Calculha

Ahri’ahn the Red, or dynastically Ahri’ahn Atlaneas, was the third of the great Sorcerer-Kings of Atlantis. She was the daughter of King Calculha of Atlantia and Crown Princess Majistra of Mu. Ahri’ahn was Atlantis’ Virgin Queen, a long-lived and wise ruler who oversaw a prolonged period of peace. However, the lack of a strong heir led to problems after she became Eternal.

Ahri’ahn is inspired by a segment of Arion’s backstory, specifically the concept of reincarnating an earlier sorcerer. While this idea has undergone significant revisions and has been gender-swapped, the fundamental elements remain intact: Ahri’ahn is the parent of Calculha and Majistra and has a white-skinned brother. The red-haired Virgin Queen invites comparisons to England’s Queen Elizabeth I.

Biography

Childhood

Ahri’ahn was the eldest child born from the tempestuous relationship between Calculha, the wise and stoic King of Atlantia, and Majistra, the passionate and forceful Crown Princess of Mu. She inherited her father’s wise statecraft and her mother’s empathy and drive. From a young age, it was clear that Ahri’ahn was exceptionally talented in the mystical arts. She quickly advanced through the Degrees of Magic and achieved the rank of magnus before her 21st birthday.

After her 12th birthday, Ahri’ahn was fostered in Lanisnar, the ancestral home of the Atlanteans, following her father’s efforts to normalize relations with the rulers of Lanisnar. While there, she pursued her interest in learning and studied under the same Dwarrow craft masters who had taught her grandfather, Orin Atlaneas.

Ahri’ahn’s distance from Atlantis had a negative impact on the mental health of her brother, Garn’nuth, who was a troubled youth that only she seemed able to help balance. He rebelled against their parents and allied himself with the Abyssal Dark, a powerful force created from the leftover blood of Ichthultu’s defeat. Ahri’ahn’s knowledge gained from Lansinar and her own raw magical strength was crucial in banishing the Abyssal Dark, but Garn’nuth was lost during the battle. For centuries, Majistra would search in vain for Garn’nuth. Although Majistra did not blame Ahri’ahn for what happened, her mother’s absence weighed heavily on her.

Queen Regnant of Atlantia

King Calculha abdicated in 5719 OC after ascending to the ranks of the Eternals. Due to her lineage, the new Queen Regnant, Ahri’ahn, had the potential to be the greatest mage of the Orichalcum Age. While she could have been a reserved and distant ruler, she instead demonstrated a pragmatic approach and proved to be an effective secular leader.

As Queen, Ahri’ahn embarked upon a series of critical infrastructure and societal projects known as the “Noble Works.” These initiatives included the completion of Calhulha’s Way, the Royal Highway that connects Mu and Tritonis, which her mother had started. Additionally, she divided the Plane of Atlas into plots and constructed the Great Canals to provide irrigation for the region.

In the seventh century of her reign, Queen Regnant Ahri’ahn joined forces with her mother, the Dowager Queen, to combat the Three Faces of Evil after it attacked Lansinar. Although they were unable to destroy the beast, they successfully drove it away. Shortly afterwards, Magistra became Eternal, leaving Ahri’ahn to rule alone.

Ahri’ahn had several suitors during her reign, including Paean of Lansinar and various descendants of the other Ten Princes. However, she chose to remain single and never married. Historians in the Adamat Age referred to her as the Virgin Queen, but the contemporary Atlantean Chronicles are less prudish.

The latter half of her reign was characterized by a mild population boom and the maturation of the Noble Works that she had initiated. Those years were largely peaceful, and Ahri’ahn spent a significant amount of her time co-authoring works on Atlantean magic with her nephew, Atlantiades (the Younger).

Eternal

Queen Ahri’ahn became Eternal in 8949 OC. Following the tradition established by her father, she stepped aside from the Throne of Atlantia to join the Council of Eternity. Her successor was her nephew, Atlantiades (the Younger), as her brother, Atlantiades (the Elder), had predeceased her. Additionally, the missing Garn’nuth had been officially removed from the line of royal succession.

Legacy

Many Atlantean historians regard Ahri’ahn’s reign as the pinnacle of the Orichalcum Age, marking the culmination of the legacy established by her grandfather Orin and her father Calculha. However, she has also faced criticism for permitting a weak succession with Atlantiades (the Younger).

Family

The family tree illustrates Ahri’ahn’s father, Calchulha, and her brothers. It also includes her nephew and heir, Atlantiades (the Younger).
