Also known as: Majistra of Mu

Majistra of Mu was the preeminent mage of the Atlantean Great Province of Mu during the Orichalcum Age. Within Mu, she is regarded as a reverend and revered figure; outside of the Province, she is most famous for her legendary and tumultuous romance with King Calculha of Atlantia.

Biography

Passion of Calculha and Majistra

The Passion of Calculha and Majistra is as well-known in Atlantis as Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra is in modern Europe. The ballad recounts the romance between the stoic, wise, and civilised Calculha of Atlantia and the passionate, untamed Majistra of Mu. Both were great-grandchildren of the Ten Princes. In public retellings, Majistra is often depicted as a symbolic transitionary figure, embodying the final flourish of the barbarous ways they adopted as exiles from Lansinar.

The on-again, off-again, near-romance between Calculha, Prince Royal of Atlantia, and Majistra, Heiress of Mu, spanned centuries. Whilst both were heirs to their respective provinces, they were frequently counselled against pursuing their tempestuous relationship, which was punctuated by brief, passionate encounters. Matters escalated when one of their infamous arguments erupted into a full-blown magical duel. This clash inadvertently attracted the attention of the Abyssal Dark, an amalgamation of a nameless Old Power and blood-like ichor shed by Ichthultu during its battle with Calculha’s father. United by necessity, Calculha and Majistra defeated the Abyssal Dark and, in doing so, discovered a way to reconcile their differences.

Crown Princess of Mu

Within Mu, the young Crown Princess Majistra is remembered as a powerful figure who refused to yield to either nature or man, continuing the reforms instigated by her mother, the previous Crown Princess. During Calculha’s exile from Atlantia, Majistra sheltered him in Mu. She had initiated a new highway system that linked Mu to the outlying towns of the Province. That was extended to the Royal Highway over the Memory Glacier and through Miteria Gorge. This highway laid the foundation of the Royal Highway System and was later known as Calculha’s Way.

Majistra was responsible for leading the forces of Thule and Mu to join Calculha’s Host of the Atlanteans on the Plane of Atlas. The combined armies broke the siege of the Old City and routed the Cult of Ichthultu. However, the subsequent trials of occultists caused a public disagreement between them—where he favoured mercy, she preferred swift vengeance. Her point of view was ably demonstrated when High Priestess Calypso Aeaea attempted to assassinate Calhculha and was struck down personally by Majistra.

Children

It was while Calculha was founding the Royal School of Art, the last of the Five Great Academies of the Orichalcum Age. that Calculha and Majistra finally married. She split her time between Mu and Atlantia, with them often spending months or even years apart. The two were rumoured to be near constant telepathic conversation. They had two children: Ahri’ahn, a red-haired magical prodigy who took after her father, and Garn’nuth the White, a cruel and volatile figure more akin to his mother. Ahri’ahn was fostered in Lansinar as part of the Lansinar-Atlantis Accords, the first peace treaty between them, while Paean, the son of Dyeus Pitr, was fostered in Atlantia.

Without Ahri’ahn’s calming influence, Garn’nuth grew increasingly withdrawn and, unbeknownst to his parents, became an acolyte of the Abyssal Dark, the same entity that they had defeated during their courtship. His eventual betrayal tore the family apart. Majistra, unable to abandon her son, spent nearly a century searching for him and attempting to redeem him, but she ultimately failed. Garn’nuth’s fate remains unclear, though it is believed his soul was lost in the shadowy pathways of the Darkworld, a dimension formed from the Abyssal Dark’s remains.

Eternal

The eventual reunion of Calculha and Majistra resulted in the birth of their third child, Atlantiades, a quiet and scholarly figure. However, the years of separation had driven Calculha to immerse himself ever deeper in magical studies. He ceased to age noticeably, and his consciousness became increasingly attuned to the deeper mysteries of magic. Calculha was the first to identify the threshold of a new rank: the Eternal.

While Majistra was on a parallel course to Calculha towards becoming an Eternal, she was not as ready as him to step aside from normal affairs. She first stepped aside as Crown Princess of Mu in favour of a distinct cousin but continued mentoring Ahri’ahn as the Dowager Queen of Atlantia. In 6392 OC, mother and daughter collaborated to defeat the Thrice Headed Serpent after it had attacked Lansinar. After that adventure, Majistra finally allowed herself to step back and pass into the ranks of the Eternals.

Legacy

Majistra was one of the first of the Orichalcum Age sorcerers to reach the rank of Eternal, effectively becoming a being that straddles the mortal world of the physical universe (the Quantum Field) and the spiritual plain (the Platonic Field). This saw her reunited with Calculha, but it also drew her into the War of the Eternals and the founding of the Council of Eternity.

In these early days, the War of the Eternals was fought in secret. However, their combined existence was threatened by the Herald of Sin, forcing most of them to band together to defeat it. The prison they formed was called the Rock of Eternity and was forged from two mountains, one from New Genesis and one from Apokolips. Their ad-hoc alliance was made permanent as the Council of Eternity. The Council would meet in session in a chamber deep within the Rock of Eternity.
